Visitor from the Alps
Today the children in Mercury class had a special visitor from the Alps. Mrs Ives (Reception teacher) spent nearly 8 years living in the Alpine region of Switzerland prior to moving back to the UK. Mrs Ives explained to the class what life was like living in the Alps, including stories of what activities her family did, what each season was like in the Alps, and how climate change is impacting certain areas of the Alps. She shared with us certain objects used by people in the Alps and people in Switzerland. Mrs Ives also helped us to locate the Alps more accurately on a map of Europe. From this, the children drew their own maps of the Alps, focusing on the different elevation levels of the Alps and how it stretched across eight different countries in Europe.
