STEM Day - Materials and structures

On Wednesday this week, Mercury class had a special visit from the Rochester Bridge Trust to explain and demonstrate how bridges have been made from different materials for centuries. We began our workshop with a historical look into bridge design and how this links to the Rochester Bridge, which has had a bridge in its current position for over 2,000 years. We learnt about five different bridge types, including an arch bridge, suspension bridge, truss bridge and cantilever bridge. The children then had a go at completing some cooperative tasks at building different model bridges. It was great fun!
