Wax resist prints
Today Mercury class completed their Wax resist prints as part of our unit on Powerful Prints! We created these pieces by first colouring a background using crayons, creating colourful patterns that overlapped. Next, we covered the background with a mixture of black paint and dish soap (to make it easier to scratch off later). Once dried, we then used tools such as toothpicks, kebab sticks and cutlery to remove some of the black paint, revealing the wax crayon pattern underneath. Using abstract images we gathered in a previous lesson, we tried to recreate our pictures using these tools. We attempted to demonstrate skills such as contrast, hatching and perspective to create our abstract pieces.
