Place Value Learning
Today for Maths, Mercury class did two active Maths lessons involving place value and flexible partitioning. The first game we played we were given 4 different coloured bibs. Blue to represent 1,000s; green to represent 100s; pink to represent 10s, and yellow to represent 1s. When Mr Knox called out a number we then had to get into a group of that size and work out what number we were. We were then asked different questions about the numbers we created in each round. Additionally, Mr Knox had use order our numbers in either ascending or descending order.
For the second game we worked in our table groups to find different ways to partition a 3 or 4-digit number we were given. One at a time we ran to the opposite end of the hall and picked out cards that represented 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 20s, 50s, 100s, 200, 500s or 1000s. The winner was the first group to make their number in any way possible.
