Celebrating Differences Day

Tuesday 4th July was school 'Celebrating differences day'. The children had a wonderful day learning about how unique we all are and that we all have different strengths, talents and skills; things that we find easy and things that we find more difficult.

All of the children have learnt some Braille, Makaton, Sign language and had a go at painting without using their hands. Children in Key Stage 2 had a go at Boccia (a target sport played indoors) and Throw Golf, listened to a talk about living with a physical disability and a talk about Visual Impairment from a Specialist Teacher. Year 6 also had a debate in class. Finlay E, Rafael S and Daniel S, in Year 6,  planned and led an assembly about dyslexia. The children were so absorbed and responsive to all of the activities and asked lots of thoughtful and well-considered questions.

This day helped the children to think about how they can support others in school and within the wider community, showing kindness and empathy.

We talked about determination and perseverance and not letting anything stand in the way of us achieving our goals and dreams.
